Agenda ready? Check!

Apologies for this weeks delayed blog entry, so let’s dive right into it!

So, as I mentioned last week, I took the time to review my weekly agenda and this is what came out of it:

  1. I was trying to do too many things in a short period of time;
  2. I was either always working on my blog, Tik Tok videos or anything else (Dean talked about being a “busy fool”… I think I fit the bill perfectly for that one);
  3. I had no “scheduled” down time.
  4. I needed to review my “Why” (thanks to Glenn for that one) and not only for the end result but also for the daily tasks I needed to do; including breaks and down time.
Spending Your Time Wisely

for some reason, I think of Yoda when I read that phrase; “spend your time wisely you must” (you have to be listening to my voice-over recording to really get that one; unless you have a Yoda voice yourself).

As many of you might have seen on Skool, (if you haven’t joined via Deans email request, go do that right now!), I made a comment about how I needed to review my WHY. Thanks to the time I took (and Glenn), I believe the time I took over the week-end, I’m better equipped to face what I NEED to do versus what I THOUGHT I needed to do. Hence, stopping to be the busy fool.

The other thing I also need to make sure to take into consideration is the planning part of my schedule.

As many of you might see, this entry wasn’t posted on the usual Friday night I post my entries. It was “a little late” because my wife surprised me with a “long week-end” getaway to Montreal (It was a long week-end here in Canada). I did let her know that even though I appreciate it, I still can’t build my business on “oops” and “surprises”.

That being said, it was my birthday this past Sunday and I figured that we could definitely take the time to relax and have some fun and take the time to take the time.

Planning Planning Planning

With all that being said, I’m pretty sure that many of you would be in a position to tell me that if I would have better planned my week, I might not be in this particular position and you’d be right! I don’t expect to become the best time-management guru in the span of a couple of weeks but I do expect to be able to get there within the next couple of months.

One of the things I’ve taken a look for is to see if AI could be a good asset to use to help me manage both my time and work to be done. I did find a couple of softwares – some of them providing a free version and others that had a cost to them, that could fit the bill and help me in that area. I’ll be following-up on another blog entry to talk about those.

The one thing I’d really like to do and have is something that could help me better manage the time I take to both educate myself and do the stuff I need to do; like this blog entry, the Tik Tok videos I want to do daily, etc…

I know that we can do this business with limited time but since I’ve got a few more hours now, I definitely want to be able to best manage that AND not forget down-time AND not feel like I’m spending all my time working on my Affiliate business.

That was definitely one thing I needed to correct from what I was doing in the past: spending too much time either being a “busy fool” doing everything but not the things I needed to do or not taking the down-time I needed.

There’s nothing worse than finding out that however good or great a time and business manager you are when you are working for someone else, you totally are awful at it when it comes to your own business.

That was the other aspect that I took the time to work on in the past months. It’s great to know my WHY and answer those but it was also a great opportunity to figure out what and who Marc is or has become?

What’s In It For You?

In as much as knowing your why is critical, I truly believe that you also need to figure out what you’re getting out of it all.

My last contract working with and for the national elections we had here in Canada gave me the chance to review some of the skills I’ve developed over the years. It also gave me the opportunity to see what I also need to work on.

So even though I’m not going to go into details here, one thing I can assure you is that you definitely need to find out what’s in it for you? Why are you an Affiliate Marketer? It can’t be only for the money….

I remember a few months ago, Dean was able to get one of his mentors to join us and Alex Jeffreys was so inspirational during the short time he was with us during the presentation.

One takeaway I remember from that presentation was how Alex told us that chasing money was the worst thing you could do. “Let money chase you” was that one phrase he used.

I think the biggest danger we can face as online marketers is to both start chasing for that “million dollar” revenue stream and want it to happen now.

The other aspect of this is the time it will take for your online business to become profitable. Profitable to the point where it will either replace your current income or provide that additional revenue to let you do the things you want to do.

If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” – Milton Berle

I was listening to Deans Monday Motivation and he mentioned a great quote which, by itself, brought back a great line to me that my mother told me so many times when I was younger: “you can have everything in life… Just not all at the same time”. It took me a while for me to understand it fully and, honesty be told, I’m still working on making sure that I work towards what I need in the present and not the needs of the future.

  1. Marc, first I would like to say congratulations on reevaluating your Why! Next Dean’s Monday motivation was “You can have anything, but you can’t have it all”. This phrase and his point was that we can have whatever we want but we may have to give up something to get it. That something is usually time or possession. Example: If I do this online biz I’m gonna have to give up Netflix couch time. Also I think that the real question isn’t what do I get out of doing this online biz, it’s what can others get from me. Just my perspective. Keep learning and moving forward it will happen!

    1. HI Ken,
Great comment and yes, I agree with you: what can others get from me is definitely a great perspective but, let’s not forget that this won’t pay the bill in the long run, you still have to find a way to make it profitable.
Great conversation to have and yes, by keeping moving & learning, it will happen!

  2. Hi Marc – Priorities! I love it how you prioritized the time with your wife over your business. And you still were able to complete the task of writing this blog regardless of the time frame and situation. This is something to be admired and modeled. You make excellent points on time management. Being a “busy fool” is something that I am guilty of and something that I constantly try to correct. I appreciate and admire how you listen to your mentors to discover, or in this case, rediscover the reason and purposes for entering this venture. Congratulations and I look forward to watching you succeed!

    1. Thanks Ernie,
Taking the time to reassess and clarify the road ahead was one of the biggest challenges I think I faced recently. Having a clear mind for that path is definitely helpful. Thanks for taking the time to write your comment and more importantly, your support!

  3. I have found that the business can be done – maybe not in one hour a day- but three or four, add or subtract. Getting up early is sometimes the remedy. It’s quiet and the peace coming from that is motivating.

    Keep going!

    1. Hi Kate,
So true! Having been an early bird in my past work definitely helps and it makes the day look a little more productive when you’ve scratched off a few things done by 10am. Cheers!
