Don’t Settle For Less

I didn’t want to start my blog for this week and the month of September on a negative note but recently, Dean reminded me of a comment I had previously read a few years ago about how we settle for the life others think we should have.

it’s all too easy to fall into the trap of settling for less than what you truly deserve. We all know of family, friends and sometimes colleagues who will tell us either that we’re just not cut out for anything else or that we should be grateful for the life we currently have. The worst part of all of this is that for most of the times, we either accept that as fact without challenging them or we let that sink in telling ourselves, they’re probably right, I’m not worth it.

If at any time, we decide to listen to our inner voice and take a shot at starting an internet business such as Affiliate Marketing, we’re most likely to face prejudice amongst our peers; telling us how it’s shady work and that it will never amount to nothing more than debts for purchased products.  We also have to face the reality that this business takes time. With a day job, family life and it’s demands we question how we can take the time to work it and still make an income out of it?

Deep down, you know that there’s more out there and you have the potential to achieve it. Sometimes, it just takes meeting up with the right people, the right mentors and more importantly, the right support.

The Allure of Comfort Zones

Comfort zones are, by definition, comfortable. They are the spaces in which we feel safe and secure, where the risks are minimal, and the challenges are few. However, staying within these confines can also mean stagnation and missed opportunities. Breaking out of your comfort zone is the first vital step towards achieving greater financial success. It requires determination, hard work, and a willingness to embrace change.

Setting Clear Financial Goals

To move beyond your current financial state, it’s crucial to set clear and actionable goals. Whether your aim is to increase your income, save for a significant purchase, or invest in your future, having a well-defined plan will provide the direction and motivation needed to succeed. Begin by setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. This framework will help you track your progress and make necessary adjustments along the way.

Understanding The Importance of your “WHY”

We touched base on the importance of your WHY on previous posts. Knowing your “WHY” is knowing WHY you want to attain those financial goals. Are they for yourself? Your family? Your spouse? Once that has been clearly defined, you’ll find that it can help you attain those goals so much faster!

Of all the steps you can take prior to starting your business as an Affiliate Marketer, this one – as well as finding out your financial goal we also previously talked about – is crucial.

If you don’t know WHY you are doing this; what the objectives are; what the financial goals are, then you could easily compare your business venture as someone who is on a boat, adrift in the sea floating on the whims of the waves or wind.

The Power of Perseverance

The journey to financial success is rarely a smooth one or linear. We’ve previously talked about the fact that there will be setbacks, challenges, and moments of doubt. However, perseverance is key. Stay focused on your goals, remain resilient in the face of adversity, and continually seek opportunities for growth and improvement. Remember, success is not a destination but a journey that requires ongoing effort and dedication.

The fact that it is a journey and not a race will also help you consider that your goals may be broken into weeks, months, years. Planning that time with specific achievable goals will lighten the burden of how you might feel the need to get to that goal when it seems that everything is running against you.

    1. Hi Meredith,
I do feel a whole lot better in regards to my journey, that’s for sure! Taking a step back and looking at what I need to do (eating that frog) versus what I want to do was a big game-changer for me!
      All the best!

  4. Hi, Marc! People do tell us how we need to settle for our current life, don’t they? It’s like they’re comfortable with us being here; why should we strive for more? I sometimes feel like they take it as a personal insult that I’m striving to make a business work. The strange thing is they are my why. I want my business to succeed so that I can take care of my family. Once our needs are met, we will do fun things together and make memories. They’ll understand someday. I just keep moving forward. Onward and upward we go, my friend!

To settle is refusing the path of our dreams because we’re afraid to lose the “resigned” state or comfort that settling just gave us. It takes courage to get out of our comfort zone. We need to accept a temporary discomfort to go forward. Here comes the WHY which is a wonderful tool that help us find this courage.
    Martin

    1. Hi Martin,
So true and yet, so many forget about this truth and, as you mentioned, are resigned to just “live” when they could be truly living outside of that comfort zone!
Thank you for such a great comment! All the best!
