And So Tik Tok Has Begun!

well, what do you know; I’m on Tik Tok – After having talked about and talked about it, well, it’s now done! So where do we go from here? I guess to the next video! And the next and the next!

I have to be honest, it probably took me about 20 takes before I was able to have a video of something remotely good enough to show! LOL! But it’s out there and I think I’m proud of myself! After all these years of finding an excuse, I finally took my courage with my two hands and went out there. So let’s see what we can do with this and how can we make it grow.

I’m sure that there’s a few errors, (quite a few if you ask me), but one thing is for sure: can’t go backwards!

Thinking about it now, I’m baffled with the fact that I was so “scared” to go online and promote myself via video. Like Dean mentioned: “I don’t want to disappoint you or flatten your ego Marc, but you’re a nobody out there – no-one knows who you are…” And it’s so true; when you think about it, apart from my friends and a few supporters, there’s no-one out there that can really do anything else but either tell me that my videos are bad (to not use another word) or congratulate me for my effort and willingness to open up to other possibilities.

Too Close For Comfort

because, let’s face it, if we want to make it in this Affiliate Marketing world, we’ll have to get outside – way outside – our comfort zone! Why not do it while we’re unknown??!?!

It’s so funny that when we start a new job, we’re willing to do everything possible to make the boss happy! And yet, when we start a business – our own business – we’re so hesitant to go out there and make it happen.

With todays technology, the internet easily available wherever we go – around the world no less – we still find ways to either find an excuse or sacrifice our possible financial future because of a silly phrase like: “what will they think?”.

If we’d only look at it as if the rent, bills and everything depended on its success, I’m sure that we wouldn’t hesitate one bit. We’d probably spend so much more time driving it and learning how to become better at it – spending any and all team needed to become better.

Practice Makes Perfect

I’m fully aware that my 1st Tik Tok video isn’t the best I could have done; heck, I even spent too much time working on this one, trying to make it as “nice” as possible… I also know that I have all the tools, time and patience to become so much better at getting these done, it’s actually scary.

I remember when I started doing voice-over work, the gentleman who I was using the recording studio to record my work was telling me how it would be so much cheaper for me to record, edit & produce my work – if only I could do that myself. Well it didn’t take too long that I was behind the microphone, behind the recording console – that had 41 tracks, (look up a Yamaha O2R; they’re quite impressive), and within one month, I was not only doing my own recording & producing, I was also doing the same for other clients.

Again, when you stop and think about it, we all know that practice makes perfect – whatever you want to become better at, you need to practice. My next plan to help me relax is to learn how to play the guitar; I plan to at least give it 15 minutes and like a friend of mine who’s a professional guitar player said: “if you practice your chords, and become good at playing them, you can play anything”.

I’m sure it’s the same thing with Social Media; imagine being able to make videos for Tik Tok and being able to transfer those over to YouTube and Facebook? I’m sure that once I get good at it for one, I’ll be able to run over to another – but that’s for later, no worries!

So with that said, I’m happy this week provided this big “humpf” to my Affiliate Marketing self-esteem, time to work on my 2nd video!

  1. Yes, congratulations on starting your TikTok journey. I look forward to seeing your content. Do you have a link? Like you said, it is all about practice, and I love your approach to this exciting new adventure on social media.

    1. Hi Alison,
Thank you for your support: @CanadianWolfe is the handle name I’m using; more on that in a future video, I promise!
      Yup, practice makes purrrrfect!
      All the best!

  2. Congratulations on your first TikTok video. I wish you’d put a link in the blog so we could see it or mentioned your profile name. Don’t worry about how it looks or came across. As you say, the trick is to just keep making them and practice. Who cares if they don’t get many views; eventually you’ll get people following you and getting to know you and at the end of the day, that’s what we want. I love your audio, you have such a great voice-over.

    1. Thanks Andy and duly noted for the link!
I’m definitely looking forward to being better – and consistent within the realm of possibilities. With the day job and my other business, time-management is becoming even more of a “thing” for me!
      Take care!

  3. Hi, Marc!
I like your comparison about how I’d be willing to do whatever my boss wanted, but I hesitate to grow my own business. What is that about? Hahaha! I just had an image in my head of me bossing me about! Maybe that would help me get my act together 🙂

Good luck with the guitar! My husband has started learning to play. My uncle asked me if I was going to learn, too. And I realized I could! The guitar is just sitting by. Why not? I haven’t picked it up yet because I think it will take so long to learn. But 15 minutes to practice chords… I can do that!

Thanks for the inspiration on both counts!
    Nakina

    1. Hi Nakina,
Not a problem; sometimes we create an obstacle bigger than it really is. Regarding the guitar, my friend told me that definitely by learning the chords, you can play anything – and 15-20 minutes a day to start off with, will not only strengthen your fingers but give you the chance to not want to quit.
      All the best!

  4. Congratulations!! I will look for your videos. Like you said, I never thought I wanted to or ever would “do TikTok. Now I like to find the work those in our affiliate marketing group are doing. And post a few of my own videos, as well! You tube is my main traffic channel. I love You Tube!!

    1. Thanks Kate,
Will definitely look to YouTube as my next venture – but for now, I’m sure I’ve got enough on my plate with Tik Tok!
All the best & have a great week!

  5. Hi Marc,
Congratulations on your first TikTok video!! I will have to look you up and take a look at it and then follow you.
It is so scary to get that first video out, but they say once you do, then it gets better after that. I haven’t started myself yet, so I’m in that boat you were just in, and will have to get passed it when I do start on my social media.
I look forward to seeing your video. Thanks!
    Meredith

    1. Hi Meredith,
Please jump in! I hate being alone! LOL! Like you said, once you’re in, there’s no going back!
Appreciate your support and don’t forget, once you’ve started it up & got it out there, let me know what your handle is and I’ll gladly follow you!
      All the best!

  6. Marc,
HUGE congratulations on posting your 1st TikTok. It does get easier. I am still nervous every time I post a video but you know what, I just go for it! Dean is so right when he says that no body knows you yet, but keep at it and that will change. I look forward watching more of your videos.
    Sherri

    1. Hi Sherri,
Thank you so much and I do believe that you’re right, it does get easier. Looking forward to making another, and another and another – and letting you watch them! LOL!
Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated.
      All the best!

  7. Marc, Congrats on finally diving into TikTok! It’s fantastic that you pushed past your fears and got your first video out there. Remember, everyone starts somewhere, and each video will only get better with practice. Embrace the journey and enjoy the process of learning and growing. Keep up the great work, and here’s to many more videos and successes ahead! Atif

  8. Yes, it is congratulations to you!!
    So many good points.
the number of excuses we tell ourselves not to do something outside of our comfort zone!
easier to please the boss, than your own business!!
Inspired. You were able to work through it and you made it.
    Awesome.

    1. Hi Eleanor,
Thank you so much for your kind words and yes, getting out of our comfort zone can be daunting but so refreshing once we’re out there! Take care!
